In LOTE this semester, our Grade 3, 4, 5 & 6 students have been learning about classifiers in Auslan.

Classifiers are used to describe an object, person, animal or place. They are used to convey personal or factual information.

Our Grade 3 & 4 students have been enjoying themselves in LOTE by partaking in an “I Spy With My Little Eye” activity, applying their knowledge of classifiers to real life situations.

Auslan Awareness is well and truly spreading throughout our community. Over the next few weeks, Auslan will be introduced to our Neighbours cast, will will feature regularly through upcoming episodes.

The Director utilised Auslan Stage Left (a well established Auslan theatre company), as well as our very own Paula (Intrpreter), who also provided Auslan consulting services.

Neighbours Highlights Sudden Hearing Loss In New Storyline

Hi there!

We would like to introduce ourselves. We are the Auslan Team at St Albans East.

Sonia is a Classroom Interpreter for the Deaf and our schools LOTE (Language Other Than English) Teacher. All our students here at SAEPS learn Auslan from Prep through to Grade 6. She works here from Monday to Friday.

Paula is our 2nd Classroom Intrpreter for the Deaf, and works here on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

As Classroom Interpreters, we work alongside the Teachers who have Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in their classrooms.

We also interpret whole school events (such as Graduation, End of Year Concerts and School Assemblies), ensuring that our Deaf students maintain access to the whole community to which they belong.

We will use this blog to keep you informed of events and student learning happening in the Auslan department.
